The Next British Wimbledon Champion Comes from Sutton Coldfield?

Sutton Coldfield, July 2008 – A unique new British initiative that encourages young children to take up sport – Teddy Tennis – is now available in Sutton Coldfield.

Developed for children between the ages of 3½ to 5 ½, Teddy Tennis teaches children to play tennis using music, pictures and teddy bear stories.

“The system works brilliantly” says Richard Bean co-founder of Teddy Tennis. “The real secret of Teddy Tennis is that it is FUN to do and children come back for more and more.” Bean continued.

Teddy Tennis music provides the rhythm that is key to playing tennis successfully and the pictures, which are of teddy bears playing tennis, shows the kids what to do. It’s a winning combination that may help produce a future British Wimbledon champion as all the top tennis players began to master the game's basic skills at a very young age.

The world No1 and five-times Wimbledon champion Roger Federer began playing at the age of three. Venus Williams was just four years old when she was taken to the public courts in Los Angeles by her father Richard. Britain's No1 Andy Murray was aged two when he was given his first racket by his mother, Judy, a tennis professional and coach. Andre Agassi's father, Emmanuel, began teaching his son hand-eye co-ordination by hanging a tennis ball above Andre's cot when he was just a baby.

Teddy Tennis is being taught at the Mere Green Centre by Teddy Tennis Coach Ian Armfield to find out more or to make a booking call 0845 643 1173 or check out the website www.teddytennis.com

Notes for editors

1.The Teddy Tennis concept applies children’s innate musical appreciation to teaching the basic elements of tennis. Songs, especially created for the purpose, provide the rhythm that helps children move around the court more easily. It helps them develop their hand to eye co-ordination and it enables them to swing the racket at the ball so that they can hit it, just like a professional. Not only do children love the approach but it speeds up the learning process,, helps develop their communication skills and grows their confidence.

2.The Teddy Tennis concept has been under development for over six years, with extensive pilot testing having been carried out in West London.
